Starlight Drive-In Theatre Blog Hello again. So I really hope that everyone went to the Huron County Playhouse and saw the show, if you didn’t its ok, I’m not mad; but you’ll have to make it up to me. Last week I went to the Starlight with some friends. The night I went was wet and rainy- ideal weather to sit in your car and watch a movie, in my opinion. Going to the drive-in on a rainy night seriously gets such a bad rap. I usually avoid it when the weather’s bad just like most people do, but I had already pre-arranged to meet people there before I checked the forecast. I think the total amount of cars at Starlight was somewhere between fifteen and twenty five, which means: a) No long lineups at the concession stand b) No long lineups for the bathrooms I can’t understand why people can go to a Silvercity to see a movie when it’s raining but won’t go to the drive-in. Do you need to sit outside of your car? Probably not, and the sound’s better from inside anyway. If you have a convertible, and the top won’t go back up, you might be the lone exception. So anyway, go to the drive-in whether it’s raining or not, because you can see the same movie without the line ups. Bring an umbrella for candy/popcorn/pop/slushy runs. (Speaking of which, twenty-five cent refills on pop and popcorn, no matter what size: see what kinds of problems the long concession lineups can impose?) The movies I saw were kind of a disappointment, I made the mistake of picking a date to go instead of picking a movie I wanted to see, so I ended up seeing movies that I wasn’t interested in. Go to their website (http://www.starlitedriveintheatre.com/GrandBend.html) to see what’s playing when, it is always up to date and has the movie schedule pretty far in advance. Do note that the new Batman movie “The Dark Knight” is playing until the 24th. Of course when I say “note” what I really mean is: go and see it every night that it plays, and take me with you. Everyone’s got to be at least a little bit excited about that movie –its okay to admit it- flaunt your inner comic book nerd, flaunt it. The day before I went to the drive-in I had a pretty wonderful experience. I was walking down highway 21 just past the lights on my way to my grandparent’s house when I saw Grandpa Jimmy’s Scottish Bakery. Oh me oh my, how I love the Scottish: a source of pastries directly on my walking route, such a coincidence needs to be taken advantage of, wouldn’t you agree? When I first walked into the bakery I started off by doing what everyone does when confronted with baked goods: I browsed along the display cases and looked at everything saying “Oh, well THAT looks good!” at various goodies. Do you remember that scene in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory where they go into the room where everything is edible? And there’s the German boy who puts a solid effort into tasting everything in the room before falling into the chocolate river? Although you won’t find a chocolate river in Grandpa Jimmy’s (Possible business expansion??), you’ll find a lot of people that feel like that boy. My first time in the bakery I went with the safe choice of a raspberry turnover, which I washed down with an apple turnover… and orange juice… and then a brownie… Anyway, my second time in, I got a sausage roll (Sausage+Pastry=wonderful) and a strawberry tart. Theoretically this is a pretty unhealthy amount of baked goods to eat in a 2 day span, but so worth it. Andrew From The Grand Bend and Area Chamber of Commerce
